i just got a 1985 corolla with the carb motor im not really sure what that motor is considered but i was wonderin if it was worth trying to build up and if it would be enough to not really race drift or anything but to at least kick it side ways one and a while to show off or what ever and if it is possible to get performance out of it what is needed that maybe i can get from a junk yard or something ?
4AC motors are not worth it.. most AE86 guys that end up with an SR5 just swap the motor to the 4AGE/GZE series as there are more parts readily available for them, even though a lot of people seem to complaint parts are hard to find.
If I were you I would convert that SR5 to a GTS:
GTS rear end: rear disc brakes, LSD
GTS fuel lines
GTS bell housing
4age motor (bluetop - low comp/redtop - hi comp)
yea i was thinking about the 4 age swap cause i found a mr2 in the junkyard by my house but i would like to be original with it so i was thiinking building up my 4ac ive found a few sites with people that have done it do yall think i would be possible to custom make a full size 4 barell carb or vw carbs anything like that to fit those are a lil easyer to come across around here and i understand the hp diference in the single cam motor but theres barley any one that does it thats why i think im willing to try it
Personally the 4AG is pretty affordable to get parts since they became pretty popular. But remember you prob need to more if you want to get to the GT-S level.
SR5 are just great for Projects to change the engine, tranny, rear axle, etc
pretty much into a hybrid project.
but it depends you have the money nor the experience.
ok well im goin to the local junkyard arond here with the best prices you can buy any complete motor in the yard for 165 bucks and ill take pics and yall can chose the best possibility for me i no they have a few supras and a mr2 and some corna wagons and 240s i no thats not keepin it toyota or anythin but ive seen it done so ill post up pics later
yea theres no way that i can rebuild the 4ac now i went to pull it out yesterday and i found part of the connecting rod out side the motor laying on top of the power stearing pump and a nice size hole that u could put a soft ball threw so its off to the junk yard i got a few? toyotaspeed said all i can use is the long block but i can fing any ae86s all they have at the junk yards around here is mr2s will the block bolt up to my 5 speed trany and do yall no of any links on how to hook up the wiring and stuff ?
Rebuild that mr2 motor, change all the seals, gaskets, water pump, oil pump, etc. You should be fine w/ a bluetop or redtop motor. No reason to make it even complicated w/ those other motors.

it depends on his situation and availability of parts.......
the mr2 longblock is literally the only thing he can use..... I'm not even 100% sure the oilpan is the same....
intake manifold is wrong, TB is wrong, water inlet/outlets are wrong, wiring is wrong, exhaust manifold is wrong, sensors are wrong, mounts are wrong, alt/bracket is wrong, ps/bracket is wrong, crank pulley is wrong, water pump is wrong, water pump hardlines are wrong, oil filter cooler adapter is wrong, fuel lines are wrong....
need I go on?
having a 4age LB doesn't mean that it's gonna pop into an ae86 unless you have the corresponding ae86 parts

thats what i was thinking thats why i was thinkin about the 3tc motor if i can find one ive seen a lot of performance parts for them and i personally think a carbed 4 banger sounds a lot better than a efi i dont think i wanna go for the hole drift thing i just want enough power to show up all the lil hondas around here with the 6 inch trash cans

The 3tc is a pretty good motor to build on. I was planning on doing a 3TC swap but it's hard finding a good donor engine around here. It's pretty much almost a direct bolt-in if you can grab a crossmember and bellhousing off an 82 corolla. Just use your stock transmission and re-locate the steering rack. Go to toyota3tc.com and there are a bunch of people with sr-5's that have converted. And if you swap in a 3tc you don't have to worry about re-wiring the entire car and fuel system.
