USA My 1987 FX16 Bogs!!!

this is my first toyota rebuild, bought the car for 300.00 because the owner couldn't get it to idle. It had three pistons with broken ring lands (from preignition) anyway, four new pistons, rings, bearings later, it idles GREAT. Unfortunately from a dead stop it bogs, and doesnt come alive till about 4000 rpm. The tvis system is working ok, the timing is good (although i cant figure out where the timing connector is ). I dont know how much the previous owner messed with the car. I know he threw an ECU, throttle body, distributor, and the airflow meter at it. Any suggestions would be great, and THANKS in advance. Tim

First thing to do is check for a vacum leak. All the rubber is old and when the motor rocks you can have a vacum leak.

Are you sure the TVIS is working? Bad TVIS usually means it stays open and you loose power in the low end. Other things to check is vacuum leak. Check to see if ECU is throwing any codes to indicate maybe a bad sensor somewhere.
