Question Rebuilt Carb...Plugs still Blk. Next?

Rebuilt my carburetor recently and replaced the plugs and wires. It ran for about 5min before it died and returned to its normal routine: acting like its running on three cylinders, shaking, not wanting to idle, must hold down the pedal to about half way for it to try to run (spuder). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Check that all the vacuum lines are in good condition and are hooked up.
Especially the larger ones like the PCV, Brake booster, Intake hose about 5.5 MM to air cleaner on right side. vacuum switch hose is connected?

Did the engine run normal for 5 minutes? If so check the fuel flow to the carb.

Sounds like a similar problem I had... My engine would sputter and shudder and then die unless I keep the revs high with the accelerator. If all the vac-lines are connected and fine I'd suggest you adjust mixture and idle speed. Lean it out and see what happens.

try to lower the fuel level in the carb bowl by changing the float level and check that the needle seat is clean and has not debris in it. My gas level was a little too high resulting in hard hot start ups and lots of raw gas in the manifold. If you open the throttle and look down the bore of carb you might see raw gas in the manifold that will tip you off to the float problem.. Carl H.
