3S-GTE swap in an AE86

hey everyone, i was lookin up stuff on possible swaps in the 86 and the 3s-gte popped up. i have a few questions and for starters,

1) the tranny made for this motor.. is it fwd, rwd or awd?

and

2) the 3s-ge (non turbo) is that an fwd, rwd or awd?

any help would be appriciated.. thankx!

AE86

1.Altezza trans or a W5x with a custom bellhousing

2. 3sge is fwd engine in the 86-89 celicas GTS and there is a RWD 3sge beams engine from a JDM Altezza

There is a red top and black top versions to the JDM 3sge, black top is Altezza and red top was in 95+ JDM MR2's,

It is not a simple swap by any means

3sgte is in alltrac(or GT4) celicas, and theyre in JDM calidinas, also GT4, IS200... ive never seem one here thats why i said Altezza, IS300 has a W55 in it I think or a W58 which I said in my previous post that you need a custom bellhousing for, Altezza trans that are with the 3SGE BEAMS are 6speeds but im not sure which trans it actually is as far as model...

ohh okay, soo te turbo 3sge is all wheel huh.. so does that mean that if the swap was done, the 86 would be awd? that would suck.. and umm
2) the red top beams edition (3sge) the one of the '95+ JDM MR2's' is that rwd and 5speed??

no the only thing that makes it a certain drivetrain layout, is the transaxle/transmission, the engine can be bolted into whatever layout you want, only things that will need changing is plumbing and such.

you can get an 3sgte and bolt on the altezza rs200 6speed, or the is200, or get a custom bellhousing and run whatever you want.

^^ did you read what i said here?? Altezza trans or W5x with custom bellhousing, Wseries transmissons were available in supras which are RWD, i wasnt giving you advice on putting an alltrac setup in it, even though an MR2 is rear wheel its still a front wheel setup because the engine is in the back, but if you take say a Altezza trans and bolt the 3sge to it and its good to go for an AE86, then you have to make up some mounts for the trans and engine, then an upgraded rear end from a MK1 supra which needs to be modded to fit the AE86, upgraded fuel system, not to mention all the wiring mess that has to be dealt with, re-plumb all the waterhosing amoung other things, and if you get a JDM engine parts wont be easy to find or cheap especially for a BEAMS engine, which will run you around 2800-3400 just for the engine and trans itself,

hmm.. yeaaa lotta mods needed eh! but umm stupid question, speaking of the beams motors (red and black top) i could use either motors with either transmissions rite? the reason im asking this is because earlier in this post i was specific abt the red top but if i could jus buy a black top off an altezza along with its 6 speed tranny then that would solve a lotta problems rite? and make my life a slight bit easier? and by problems i meant getting a w5x tranny with custom bellhousing..

also, after lookin up some stuff, if the 86 can use the black top i found this swap package which includes the following
  1. COMPLETE BLOCK & HEAD
  2. 6 speed TRANSMISSION
  3. 5Zigen Exhaust Manifold
  4. ECU (Computer)
  5. Complete Wiring Harness
  6. INTAKE MANIFOLD
  7. ALTERNATOR
  8. INJECTORS
  9. FUEL RAIL
10.SENSORS
11.Throttle Body
12.POWER STEERING PUMP
13.A/C Compressor

what im wondering is, can i replace all the exact ae86 parts with the ones i mentioned above so that they are all new or is that not possible for whatever reason?? thankx!

not really sure what your getting at...you HAVE to use all those parts on your swap, you dont use any of that stuff from your 86, you use beams hardware on a beams engine.

you could gut the A/C compressor and powersteering, it will take alot of work to modd the lines to make it work, unless you abosolutly cant live without either, and you will have a bit less lag on the engine better on gas a and more responsive, thats just a generic description of what the engine has, youll find out everything you need once you get down and do it, and the blacktop is a full RWD setup so it will be the easiest to plumb and stuff like that

ohhh okay!! i get it now! soo i pretty much need the above for the swap. so buyin the engine and tranny itself is pretty much useless. kk and yeaa ive decided to go for the black top beams swap cause thats prob the least of the problems lol now only if i knew a shop in toronto that would have enough knowledge and the resources to do a clean swap!! =(
