There really isn't to much wrong with it, so I'm going to go ahead and modify the stock motor and start tweaking it.
Right now I also plan on doing some of the maintenance stuff, replace shocks with Bilstein shocks, oil change to synthetic unless there is a good reason not to, and I'd like to change the puny 13 inch wheels to something like a 15 inch wheel too, but I haven't been able to find the specifics, like offset and bolt pattern, which I think is 100 x 4, but the offset would be nice to have so I don't increase the scrub radius increasing tire wear, anyways new wheels to have a larger selection of tires for better grip. Also I would like to know what it would take to upgrade the brake system to 4 wheel disc brakes.

the bolt pattern is a 4x114 its kinda a rare bolt pattern to the rest of the car world. hard to find rims and the max you can go is a 15 with out throwing off every thing. but have seen 18's
for engine mods you (should) have a 3tc. check out
www.brdracing.com they specialize in 3tc engines. you can put a weber car or 2 side draft carbs and go all motor or there have been applications where people have super/ turbo charged their 3tc. another mod is to get a 2tc head off an older model corolla and mate it with the 3tc block. if memory serves me right it should up the compression. but if your gonna turbo it i wouldnt recommend it.
weather stripping you should look at
www.jcwhitney.com they should offer something to help you out in their product line
i dont know if blisten makes shock for your make and model... but on ebay you can find the brand GABRIEL, tokico. and at partsamerica.com (aka advanced auto parts) you can get kyb
break up grades wood include a ae86 (1985-88 i think) gts corolla. it has disk breaks in the rear with a LSD.
and you never said if it was an auto or a manual? thats gonna be the main kicker in my book. would have to have a manual before getting too far on the mod list...
FYI i have a 83 corolla station wagon with an auto and have ran across some of the same questions
