what kind of offer should I make?

So, the past few days driving around I've seen an AE86 gts sitting by somebody's house, and it looks like it hasn't moved much lately, and it doesn't look to be in good shape (some rust, wheels/tires look rough, I cant get into the engine bay to see so thats all I know now). I've been debating walking up to the house and making them an offer or tell them to call me if they are ever debating selling it. So, what would you reccomend as an offer?

say
if it ran ok:
needed some work:
in really bad shape:

help is appreciated

If it runs but it needs work and is the exterior is as bad as you said the I would say $400, and that's if it has no AC, the engine sounds like it needs work, it smokes it sputters the engine looks neglected. If it doesn't run then $200, but they might tell you that it needs like a starter or somthing like that and try to sell to you at a higher price. If you have $400 cash just say you'll take it from their hands for $400 right now. If they say they let it go for $600 say that you have $400 right there with you and you'll take the car.

AE86

also you have to remember that these cars are huge over-priced, if it was an SR5 then yeah 400, but for a GTS if anyone knows what they are they will be offended with a 400 dollar offer, my buddy just bought a GTS for 1300 and its not in the greatest shape but some people would call it a deal, realistically

lol yea, some people know different things about cars, this car went through 4 owners before i got it, and they all know about this car alot, guess you just need to know what they know about it before you offer, my offer was 500 but he said 400 and i got it within a heartbeat!!

good luck on getting the car!!
