SURPRISE! i just acquired a 3tc!!!

Hey folks, Aaron here,

I primarily drive a 1989 samurai that i use around town and to go offroading.

I just received a free (read: beat up) 1982 sj410 (suzuki), i was told it has a mystery motor and transmission, lots of bodyrot, and some hillbilly fabrication to the frame etc.

all in all, i thought it was a sweet deal (i have always wanted a hardtop sj410).

my initial pics:

what a beaut!!!

now, im pretty sure the engine is a 3tc! something that i know NOTHING about!

Is this the stock carb?:

the plan was originally to take the body off this truck, fix all the rot and slap it onto my other samurai frame. However, i have read that this engine produces more power than my 1.3l 64hp oil burning samurai engine, and that the 3tc is almost bulletproof.

So, if i can get this thing going (previous owner told me it turns over, but no spark) i would love to put this engine and trans in my samurai.

Just thought id share what may be an interesting project, and a huge learning experience.

-Aaron

with out accually checking the engine numbers(hope theyhave them) i'm thinking that that is a 2tc. looking at pics online i'm 98.9% sure it is by the exhaust manifold.yours has 2 holes and my 3tc has 1. but they both can be built up to have lots of power. the 2tc and 3 tc are consitered the "hemi" of toyota.
www.brdracing.com has alot of parts that are specificly for those engines.

That looks like the stock carb.
The engine number would be on the engine block right beside the dipstick on the flat machine area.

well with checking the block or having a buddy that is a toyota nut, it might have a 3tc block with a 2tc head, thus the 2tc head explaining the 2tc exhaust manifold, but with out tearing in to it... its just guessing. doing the swap with the 2tc head with the 3tc block is kinda a common swap... but your gonna have to check in to it. but with out cracking it open, a weber carb and a header will add some ponies!

2TC stuff

As my screen name implies, I rolled my 77 corolla in october and I now have many NEW parts that have to go. If you would like to know, ron's precision machine, inc (www.rpmrons.com) has rebuild kits for about $400. If you are going performance, www.brdracing.com has all kinds of performance goodies and they even rebuild engines ($$$$$). I also know where to get a japanese 2TG motor with twin solex sidedrafts. (friend of mine)
Anyway, I have 2 2TC motors, one has been disassembled, the other is complete but has low comp. on the number one cyl. -
I have a T50 5 speed with a techno toy tuning short shift kit (VERY short throw). The bellhousing is for a 3TC though, so a 3TC flywheel and rear engine plate must be used. New throwout bearing carrier and clutch fork boot included.-
Eagle H-beam connecting rods
2 sets of stainless 44/39mm valves
1 set BRD racing bronze valve guides, as well as standard valve guides
1 set BRD racing valve springs
early (non EGR) head
1 intake and 1 exhaust flange for custom manifolds
stock size cast pistons
Griffin aluminum radiator adaptable to corollas. (BRD sells them)
multi layer cometic head gasket, along with other gaskets
water pump
brake master cyl + heat sheild (HEMI orange)
2 distributors
strut tubes+ hubs+ tension rods
factory toyota 2T 2TC 3T 2TG engine maintenance/overhaul manual.
Everything must go, realize that I have NO use for these parts, I will let them go cheap. If you are interested, throw me a price for anything. Located in northern califrornia.

I have a couple of 2 tc engines also. I was wondering it looks like in the pic yours is wired through a coil and a resistor tprolly a points distributer. Can you get me some part #s of those or anyone help me with wiring one that way, I can only get mine to run the factory ignitor box. Email me if you want glmorgan@wildblue.net Love those little engines though. it should be a good combo in that rig.
