plese help me save my wagon a40 to a40d interchange

i have an 1983 corolla 3ac wagon with a bad a40 non over drive Transmission it is no good and all i have to put in is an a40d from a 3tc do i need to change the bell housing i already have the center link cause the a40 is shorter than the a40d thank you cause my wagon is broke down in a parking lot in new Orleans and i live in Mississippi cant tow it home cause i cant afford it im only 16 so igot go to my moms and take my tool and change it out pain in the ass lol

i didn't know much about transmission, but one thing I want to point out is if you swap an a40d in your 1983 I think you need more than a bell housing (bell housing is difference between 1983 3tc with a40d and 1983 4ac with a41) since a40d is electronically control. as far as I can think of now, your gear shifter need to be change since a40d is come with overdrive but an a41 gear shifter didn't have the od switch. also I think the drive shaft may not fit since they have different parts number.
