Hmm ... emissions.
I have a 1987 Corolla with a 4A. As far as I can tell it has all of the emissions still on it and is bone stock. When I purchased the car I replaced the air filter and spark plugs and threw some new oil in it. Went to go through emissions and here are my results:
HC idle limit: 220
HC idle result:79 (PASS)
CO idle limit: 1.2
CO idle result: 0.01 (PASS)
HC cruise limit: 180
HC cruise result: 210 (FAIL)
CO cruise limit: 1.3
CO cruise result: 2.46 (FAIL)
(I live in W.A. and we don't have to run NOx)
Doesn't look like it's off by much. Was talking to a friend and researching on the net and have seen numerous times mentioning retarding the timing. Friend said to just retard it all the way without actually removing the distributor and then bringing the idle back up with the air idle screw on the carb. Not too sure about this ... I've heard alot of people saying just two degrees but I don't have access to a timing gun and just want this done.
I messed around with the timing and idle today and have a "rough" idea where it was before I started to play with it.
Also heard about using HEET in the gas tank but I have a half tank and expired tabs ... soooo, probably a no go there as you need to run the tank low.
Any help/info ANYTHING would be appreciated. I'm going to try again tomorrow (May 16th).
