Question is a fan shroud necessary?

I have a 1986 Corolla SR5 that's about ready for the junkyard. The fan shroud can no longer be attached as the parts the screws go through have broken off. Do I need a replacement or can I just leave it off?

Well. non AC equipped cars didn't come with the shroud. I would say leave it in. The shroud really helps when stuck in traffic. Helps direct air. And those things that the screws connect to are metal clips with holes in em. They slip over the lower half of the shroud. So they are cheap enough to fix.

Actually the holes for the bolts are part of the shroud itself which is plastic. I see I can get a new shroud for $40 but in my opinion the car at this point isn't worth $40. Since half of one hole( wish I knew the correct word for these) is there I was thinking maybe I could tighten the bolt as much as possible and then use some duct tape to hold it. Would the heat of the engine be too much for duct tape or would this be an ok temporary fix?

if the car isnt worth fixing, dont waste your time or money an leave it off... toyota's cooling system is pretty darn good so long as you keep good coolant in it & your fan is working properly
