jsut picked up a 1985 4alc

hey guys, longtime no talk . Just picked up a 85 corrola from the orig owner, car has 100k on it. interior is immaculate, no dents but some rust. I dont know anything about these cars so i would appreciate if you guys can help me out here. the car has a new exhuast, tires, batt etc etc. But I dont know about the timing belt, are these non-interference motors?? I am worried if it breaks it will cause big damage. 2-) I have a massive oil leak on top of the valve cover and all over the driver side going from the cylinder head to the break boost. Are there anyone known problems with these engines when iot comes to oil leaks? Like is the valve cover known to leak? I am going to clean it up and keep an eye on it. There is no way of telling where the oil is coming from. Anyother tips about this car?? anyone issues i shoudl address or check???

thanks!!!

Thanks Fred, I appreciate it. Is there anyone know issues on these motors?? I would like to go everything and make sure everything is ok. I do know the engine bay has a ton of oil all over the place. I cannot see one gasket causing it. Maybe something on the motor is know to break or leak spraying oil all over??

thansk!

You can buy some engine degreaser and just go to town on the engine bay, mine had a leak too but wasn't sure what it is, I recently did the vavle cover gasket on mine when I did the timing belt, hope it was that that was leaking. I'll update if I find out that it is something else that is leaking. Definitely clean out the engine bay though, it cost like 2 dollars a can and I used at least 3 cans total on my engine. Remember to cover the distributor and alternator, before you spray away the degreaser.

hey guys, thanks for the replys. i will have pics up shortly. She jsut passed emissions before I got her. the owner put on new tires, brakes.tune up and exhuast. I got the car for free

now things I have to check out:

1-) the owner doesnt remember anything about the timing belt, it might be the orig one. I am wondering if there is a easy way to check it out??

2-)the driver side window (one part of it) does not want to roll up so the window gets crooked and jams.

3-) supposedly, the owner stated he saw a leak behind the rear wheel and the brakes felt funny. I need to invesitgate. might be a rusty line.

I dont know anything about these cars!!

Ralph
