Here comes a fanboi...

Lol. I was looking for an 86 a couple years ago, just recently (as in saw on my way home an hour ago) one popped up for sale. It's a hatch SR5 model, looks rather slammed, big ass tach, fart can and some Puerto Rican scribble on the rear window. A few rust outs as well.

The SR5 model was nothing special correct? No LSD even? Did it even offer the 4age?

I've never owned a hatch before, but If I were it would be an 86. I know it's hard to gauge a value without pics, but what do you think it's worth? I haven't bought a car in a while and I don't have to go into work til 2pm... so, I am considering making an offer.

Sure, I'll look at the body and frame closely, the engine? Well it is a Toyota right? I'm rockin a pickup with a 22re right now whose odometer stopped many years ago at 185k

I'd wait until a GT-S pops up for sale.

Just spoke with him, he's asking 800 obo. 139k miles, carbed engine. I know it won't be fast, but could it be fun to drive? I guess that determines on how the suspension has held up; bushings and all.

Up to you - if you want a project car, this should like it. $800 and sounds like it has beat to hell and back, don't know - for me, $800 is a little rich for an older car. Plus, you could probably get a mint condition GT-S for not much more.

Carby is fine - good DD. Fun? Depends on your definition of fun. As long as the car is in good running condition - you have some options.

The thing that turns me off on that is the rust. Anytime you see rust perforate a panel, that means there might be some hidden cancer elsewhere - not worth the effort with others choices out there, unless this IS the car you must to have.

Good Luck, either way.

Spend a few more minutes looking around for a GTS.

EFI engines are much more reliable daily drivers.

4AG offers a few more hp. 114 isn't much, but it's noticeably more fun than 49 or whatever the SR5 came with.

4-wheel disc brakes.

Suspension is the same with both cars, and the shells are pretty much identical. LSD was never avail in the SR5 and is a USA only option on the GTS.

However you can drop an LSD into a GTS. Good luck finding one for an SR5.

I took a closer look at it on my way to work today (in the sunlight) the frame is pretty bad. I wouldn't pay more than 500 for it, if it ran great.
It wasn't there on my way home tonight though...

This statement is false, everyone wants an arm and a leg for mint GTS', you could get a mint SR5 for a bit more, ive seen rotted out GTS' sell for more than 1800+,

only buy this if you want something to work on, if you want a car to jump in a drive its the wrong one for that,
