Maybe is the carburetor setup, or a vacuum line in the carburetor is out or broke. Check first the booster vacuum line, if you said the problem is when you stop, can be that.

Suerte...

mine is doing the same

I have a 78 corolla coupe SR5, 5 speed. It has been aggravating me for quite a while, I have replaced all my vacuum lines and it has started to idle about half the time, mine is also only running on one side it for some reason wont pull in the secondary. I have been looking for a rebuild kit or my wish list is for a used weber as I cant afford a new one. If you figure out what your issue is I could use the help. The vacuum hoses are the biggest problem Ive noticed. Good luck!

The origional problem could be the curb idle, if i recall it should have a hot and cold adjustment, bet yours is the hot idle set too low.

All right ill say again its fuel. Im a mechanic people ASE, and EPA certified. If the brake booster was leaking it would run like shit all the time like it has a huge vacuum leak.... because it would. If youve checked all vaccum lines for a good connection then its obviosly fuel. Now its either a colapsed line, dirty filter, worn out pump, float misajustment, or a diry/plugged carb. Ive had this problem on all of my corollas, its always carb related. Cough up the forty bucks and rebuld the aAsin carb. Theyre good carbs just after 30 years shit gets old. If yu live in a non emission area rip all the vacuum lines off except for the ones for 1.brake booster. 2.vaccum advance(pot closest to distributor)3.secondary accelerator pump(diaphram thingy on the passenger side of carb) 4.transmission modulator if auto. Run all lines to front ports of carb. works fine on mine. Take off EGR tube and cut fittings off, flatten tube and roll it up so the fittings act like plugs. make a block off plate for egr. and marvel at your gained of 5-15 horse yaaaay.
