carberation education

ive noticed a lot of nubes to carbs around here so let me educate you.

If you car will start and idle fine but die when you hit the accelerator pedal its the accelerator pump. They get old and roll up on them selfs. or its the accelerator pump squirters cloged. remedy rebuild the carb because you cant just by an accelerator pump for Aisin carbs or clean out the squirter passage.

if it dies while stopping its either a collapsed fuel line, dirty or clogged fuel filter, poor fuel pump pressure, dirty carb, improper float adjustment. Remedy check for good flow to carb, check fuel bowl for dirt, check float alignment by flipping the top of the carb upside down and making shure the float is parralel to the top of the carb. if its not gently bend the tab that holds the needle until it is.

now if it wont idle or has a dead spot it could be the idle adjustment screw, timing, or a dirty carb. remedy fidlle with the adjustment screw and see if that helps, fiddle with the timing and see if that helps, and also a small dead spot can be caused by a worn accelerator pump. if all these didnt help, you have a vaccume leak or the carb needs to be cleaned and rebuilt.

this will help all you new guys a lot. dont be afraid of tearing into a carb. the worst that will happen is you'll need a rebuild kit and they are only 40 bucks

Carb ?s 4 ya

Hey I have been struggling with a rebuilt carb for a while. Today I found that the secondary was stuck so now that it is fixed, I need to road test it again. I really want to get this car tuned properly. It had been sittling for more than 6 years. In addition to rebuilding the carb, I replaced the fuel pump, filters and cleared the tank pick-up.

I believe that the mixture screw only affect the mixture at idle?
Which way do I have to turn the mixture screw to lean it out?
I'm thinking that I should hook up a vacuum gauge and adjust the mixture to achieve maximum rpm & vacuum?

See it here (pics of data plates) it only has 114,000+ miles on it.

Thanks in advance.
