1988 AE82 Sedan Timing Belt Snapped.

Hey there,

My car just gave up when the timing belt has snapped (well the teeth that is), therefore it slipped, causing the engine to be out of sync which in the end the car had to be towed..

I've only got this car in March '09 at 176,000km's, ADM 1988 AE82 Sedan, it was an ex company car that wasn't used very often these days (was mainly highway km's), it was a first car that particular company owned hehe.

So it was towed back to my mechanic, he said that the engine needs to be put back in sync and a new belt is needed (obviously), so I let him do his thing.

The engine in question is a 4A-LC, the temp indicator on the dash isn't working properly as well, would there be any way to replace it with a new temp sensor or something along those lines..?

Well it broke down when we were going on a snow trip to Mt Buller - 250 km away

So there goes this question, would the car be reliable enough to go to Gold Coast this summer? (About 1791km away from Melbourne Australia), after the timing belt has been replaced (I have already replaced spark plugs to brand new Bosch ones, new coolant and new tyres this year).

Car is currently at 184,000 Km's..

Any advice would be appreciated, wouldn't want the car to break down during the trip :P, car and engine itself to my eyes seems to be an excellent condition, no cracked dash, carpet and seat seems brand new, no rust at all and engine bay is tip-top.

Cheers!
