85 4door: heater quit

I have an 85 4 door and is starting to show its age...
Hopefully will be able to locate explanations and maybe solutions to one or two problems...

or at least get some pointers to useful threads if I can't locate them myself.

2 issues: my heater fan quit suddenly, without warning; a couple of days later it came on briefly; should I assume the blower motor went? Or are there other things to look for?

And for a while on braking there is a low-pitched, low-frequency "thromming" sound, kind of a regular pulsing... which also occurs on right hand turns at low-moderate speed (relatively sharp turns, like 90 degrees, say at 10 mph.) The brakes work find, and the steering is tight, without play. Any ideas on where to start looking?

I moved your thread to the Corolla section. These guys know this car well.
Sounds like either a warped rotor and/or wheel bearing.
As far as the fan, it's either a relay or the fan motor itself.
Good Luck and Welcome to ToyotaNation

Thanks... I should have figured the question wasn't in the right section. And thanks for the welcome.

Now... this is embarassing... what does the blower motor/squirrel cage look like mounted? I know what they look like as a loose part... Where in the engine bay is it? Or is it above the pass side footwell under the dash? I am very much a noob, though have had success doing simple jobs on other vehicles...

I happen to love this old thing... I bought it on a whim (cheaply) and it gets twice the mileage of my much newer and prettier van... but it has a soul, and 5 speeds, and the van has neither.

I've read http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTri...ml#MotorRepair and Canadian Tire claims to have a blower motor (new) for $55... so $20 for replacement brushes seems high... This is assuming it's the motor itself with the problem.

I'm not familiar with your vehicle, but I'm sure the fan motor would be located brhind the dash somewhere. Maybe some here can post a schematic of it's location along with the relay location(if it has a relay)

blower motor is under the dash.... you may have blown the resister, but if you pull the blower motor out you can hook it up to a battery for a second and see if it still works, if it does yor problem lies elsewhere, if its the same as an AE92 corolla there is a main power wire that feeds the blower motor that comes straight from the battery, check to see if the fuse is blown
