4ALC timing belt fail Valve clearance?

So, I'm wondering when I should replace my timing belt. The motor has 115,000miles and sat for 6 years. I don't know if it was ever replaced. When these belts slip / fail will the piston hit a valve?

Well those old Toyota timing belts had a recommended replacement interval of 100,000 KM or 60,000 Miles so I'd say at the least its due for another one if it was done once. I can't recall if the 4A-LC was interference or not, I'd have to look it up at the shop. But if it breaks it and its non-interference then its going to be a very big annoyance. Honestly I'd say just replace it along with all the other belts since it has been sitting and they're coming off anyway. So depending on the options you're looking at 1 to 3 accessory belts if I remember correctly and a timing belt. Well worth it for a little piece of mind.

So is it interference or not ?

That is the question. I know I need to change it. I've done so much to get this car back on the road, I want to drive it for a while before I tear it apart again. So can the piston hit the valve when the timing belt fails?

The piston will not hit the valve if the belt breaks.

Thanks it is on my list of things to do. I was wondering where on the list to put it. I think I'll wait for nicer weather.
