Problem find a part for my transmission...

Hello, this is my first post on this forum, and I'm hoping someone can help me out a bit. I'm working on an '86 Corolla front wheel drive with a five speed that wouldn't stay in fifth gear without holding it in. I went directly to the local Toyota dealer and got all the upgraded fifth gear parts, including the fork, the dogs, the synchronizer, and the slider gear(or drum, or whatever it's called), but the upgraded main gear was no longer available. Seeing that the teeth on the main gear I had looked fine, I decided to put it all together using the old main gear. So I got it back together, tryed to drive it, and fifth slips out worse than ever. It appears that the new parts aren't compatable with the old main gear. Does anybody know where I can get one of the upgrade gears? I have the part numbers for the old style and upgraded gears:
The old part: 33036-12020
The new part:33036-12021

Thanks in advance!

Maybe consider a used c52-56 trans? I've seen ones from ~95 cars for around $100. Would be cheaper than tearing down to repair again...

I've considered it, but the cheapest one I can get locally is $450, and it has 150k miles. Pickings are slim for them around here.

Really? That's nuts. Go find any 5sp aw11 or fwd corolla or any newer tercel/echo/celica they all use a C5x trans. They'll all fit (except the mr2 which has a different shifter).

I'll bet you can find a rusty or crashed car for $100 if you look in the right places.

As for transmissions around my area, there are plenty from people buying engine+trans for swaps into an ae86 where the FWD trans cannot be used. Heck I've got one in my storage shed, but shipping it would cost you huge$$
