USA 1JZ in a 76 TE38?

Hey corolla nation, my old wagon is in need for some more power so I was thinking of going big and putting in a 1JZ either N/A or turbo into it. My question is will it work and how much modifying will need to be done to achieve this? Can I use the 4sp manual that is in now? Can I use a T50 or should I buy a complete assy. of motor and trans.?
I don't want to have to do big mods like cutting the frame and body work, I'm mainly willing to customize mounts, if possible.

I've considered the 4AGE route but I think I'd like to take the "go big or go home" way if I do give my baby a new mill.

It doesn't look pretty but I still get lots of looks and thumbs up. I even got a note in my windshield at the local walmart asking to call if I ever wanted to sell it. I want to do this mod so that after someone is done checking out my sweet wagon I can then have looks of astonishment and jaw dropping as I leave them in the dust.

SO, if this is possible, and anybody has some direction to point me or has previous examples, please let me know. thanks.

you know you can go big without going big. i mean the 16v and the 20v are amazing engines and can make awsome power your. the gze it superchargered so the internals are already reinforceded so the replacing the charger with a turbo could yeild big results. the 1j the 2j and the 7m are good engines and make good power, but they are big and heavy. so the rear axle and the suspension would have to be motified to work with them. and you would have to use the tranny for the engine im pretty sure hahaha.

Ijz is good well we worked on my dads 76 Celica with a 1JZ 5 spd. I dont remember what are the dimensions of the transmission cowling. We used the 1Jz with the R series transmission of an 80 supra (7M motor) Did a swap with an 80 Supra rear end with factory LSD.

but 20V or 16V will be a good motors to start but might cost more to run as strong/efficient as a stock 1jz

Good Luck!

I think I'll go with a 4AG** instead of a jz. according to one, it may not even fit under the hood of 76 wagon without a lot of work. and then I'm going to run into issues of balance and strengthening everything from the transmission back, and it may just be too impractical. The 2TC came with what 75ish HP at the crank stock? And now I must be at half that or so at the wheel. So I think if I doubled that with a 4AG, I would be very happy.
