AE86 Building Up Motor

Well as part of the deal for my Corolla I became the proud owner of a 4A-GZE long block with accessories, ECU and intercooler. Now I'm not looking to go forced induction again had my fill of turbo's with my R32 GTR, buddies GTR and other buddies Eclipse GST. So I'm not too interested in supercharging this project. However I would like to take the stronger GZE block and build a high compression, higher reving motor. I'm not looking to pull stupid amounts of power out it, honestly if I can get 110-120 HP at the wheels I would be more than happy. I've gotta look at some manuals tomorrow and see what I can get for specs. Then it'll be parts ordering time.

why dont you keep the supercharger on it and keep it stock. that way you get the 110 or so horsepower thats reliable. i mean because its supercharged doesnt mean you got to run high amounts of boost you know.

Honestly I'm just sick of dealing with boosted vehicles. I like the reliability and simplicity of N/A. All I'm out for is a fun car that handles nice. I'd like it to be my DD in the summer that likely won't see the track beyond some doing autocross the odd weekend. Also I've found that the GZE sounds different from the GE. But thats more aesthetic than anything.

Higher compression plus mild cams got us 124hp to the rear wheels on an ae86.

Specs:
used 1991 smallport engine
modified smallport intake plenum (to fit RWD)
261 cams from PDM/Colt Cams
TRD headers, high flow cat, FGK Legalis-R 50mm exhaust

The problem with going N/A with that engine is that the 4A-GZEs didn't have TVIS, so you will probably have very weak low end performance.
The best way for going N/A with that engine would be to get a Big Port 4A-GE head, and some Small Port pistons.
But with that, you will need to get the Big Port ECU and wiring, in order to have the TVIS and have it working.

In my opinion the amount of effort to go N/A will not be worth it. It will actually be a step backwards.

My suggestion would just keep that engine stock. It is a tried and proven daily driver in supercharged form. Ask the MR2 guys.

If you really want to go N/A, trade that engine for a Small Port 4A-GE.

I already have a big port engine in the car. I was looking into upping the compression ratio anyway so my thoughts are just to use the stronger block with big port head, higher C/R pistons and possibly cams.

Ok, I got you now.

Yes, the GZE block with crank and connecting rods, and small port pistons is the way to go.
