Blue 2-wire connector -- what is it?

I have a 1986 FWD Corolla with 3-speed A131 transmission. Near the white connectors for the transmission wiring is a blue 2-wire connector that isn't connected to anything. What's its purpose? It has a red wire with a blue stripe and a plain red wire. This isn't the connector for checking the ignition timing, and I can't find it on the wiring diagram.

Just a WAG, but maybe they use the same wiring harnesses in the vehicles with overdrive as without, so that the economies of scale pays off in the overall simplification of the assembly line. It may accept the signal from the OD on/off button.

One again, just a guess...
