aftermarket cam question

what are the advantages of running a "larger" exhaust cam?
for example running a "256" on the intake side and a "264" on the exhaust side?
my engine is a 4age.

its not really larger, the duration (256,264) is how long the valve is held open, the lift is most likely the same.... but i dont know what advantages of running this setup would be

Hi, try using words like cam duration degrees, cam lobe center. Search aftermarket cam manufacturer brand names to see what they offer.
I suppose most all cars will gain a little horse power with moderate cam duration improvements, but you might gain on top and lose on the bottom. Plus cams can be costly to install and could entail other performance valve train parts to go with the cam.
the way I look at it, it the motor pulls to redline, what more do you want. Most are better off with stock cams.
