2nd Generation 77 COROLLA performance

OK, I have a 77 corolla sr5 2t-c. Already pulled everything off engine thats not nessisary for daily driving.

Ive already got a 4into1 header comin wich i will run 2.5 all way bck through a "stock style" muffler.

Big question is, to get 150 hp at 4000rpm or so what would be needed. No side draft or weber carbs though. Prefer a single shaft carb W/O choke.

Im looking at a holley 350cfm. Or a stock from a nother vehicle. just dont want emissions crap on it.

Any input would be appreciated.

I dont know if it will be bigger than stock but looks like it might be easier to tune.

To get 150 HP out of a stock 2TC you will need a little boost or laughing gas. My 3TC with header, five finger intake and Weber 32/36 was still only around 100 HP.

I figured i would never find one, or at least one i can afford.

I do have a weber 32/36 that i just got finished rebuilding. The shafts were frozen so i did a complete rebuild. The jetting on it is stock and both shafts work smoothly now.

Just got to get this adapter adapted to my manifold. Its for some other car but i can make it fit.

My biggest problem now is eliminating the points and getting gas gage working. Any tips on the gas gage would be greatly appreciated.

And thanks for all of the help. I dont think my car would have lasted this long without it

I'm sorry but 150hp@4000rpm require to produce 197 ft/lbs of torques at 4000rpm even with a multivalve DOHC cylinder head and 13:1 compression ratio, a 4 cylinder 1.6L will never ever make more than 170 ft/lbs, even at 100% VE... why are you looking at so much power so low on the powerband...???

150hp is achivable on a 2t-c, but you are looking at high duration cams along with big valve and all the hardware that's needed with it (stiffer valve spring, stiffer pushrods...), high compression piston and a good intake system, along with a tuned exhaust system and most importantly a good porting job... and even with all this, you'll need to rev the engine 7000rpm+ in order to put down those numbers...

or you could keep your stock compression, strap a small turbo like a T2 on a custom exhaust manifold, and make a sucktrough design with the carb connected before the turbo and the turbo directly on the intake manifold... keep the boost low (under 6 psi) and tune it, it will probably never do 150hp... more like 120hp, but this is the only way I can think off that would be cheap and give a good up in the mid rev area, without going all balls out for a "real" turbo build... but that would be a complete other story...
