New Corolla Owner! :D (What parts can I use?)

Hey all!! So yesterday I picked up a 1982, 5 speed, RWD Corolla for $550! The engine runs strong, and the body is pretty solid, definitely showing it's age though and I will be having a battle soon against the rust that is starting to accumulate on it before it gets out of hand and destroys the integrity of the car.

Anyways I love this little car! I have only driven it for two days and already I am dreaming of restoring it to it's once pristine condition! One of my questions is what year of Corolla's or other cars can I take parts off of for this car? Also what are some good parts sites for this car? Finally anyone have a good website or video on how to properly repair rust and holes?

Hey. 1980-1983 for body parts, for engine 81 and 82, Toyota changed the engine for the '83 from the 1,8 timing chain to the 1,6 timing belt. Good parts sites you can try rockauto, plus there is a guy on Toyotanation goes by the name Toyotapsrtsman, He's been described as very helpful. As for getting the rust, depends on where it's at and how far is has spread. If it is bad, though, you'll need to remove the part and weld in a replacement. Only way to get rid of rust, otherwise rust will spread from the rusty/rusted metal to the replacement metal. Good luck

Correct some body parts from 80-83 only minor changes and the 3TC engine came in the 80-82 pushrod engines, changed to a 1.6 overhead cam in 83. Post parts you need here or on other corolla sites. 3TCgarage.com is on the best ones around. I have boxes of parts that I don't need after selling my 81.

Hey guys so went and did a dumbass thing today. It had just rained and the pavement was slick so my buddy and I decided to go have a little fun sliding around in the parking lot. A little info on the car: It's a '82 Corolla with an '81 engine, 5 speed, with 4 speed gearing in the rear or something like that I forget exactly how the guy explained it. I just bought the car 3 days ago. Oh also I have changed the fuel filter, spark plugs, air filter, and oil, it ran wonderfully until what happened next.

We had some fun revving it pretty hard and such. Then I went and spun out pretty bad and stalled out the engine, afterward it would barley keep running. It smoothed out some eventually and was able to idle fine, but every time it was given gas it died.

The choke valve, or what I think is the choke valve, in the carb seemed to be stuck shut. We taped it open and I was able to drive home like that, although the power seemed weak like it wasn't getting to the rear and it seemed like I had to shift a lot sooner in each gear. Any ideas guys??? I really need some help this car is my only mode of transportation right now, it was really stupid of me to go push this old car so hard like that.

Ok so update on the situation, went out this morning, the car had sat all night without anything done to it. Took the tape off of the choke valve, and started up the car. It started right up and I could give it throttle without it dying. Drove it down the road and it seemed to be running normally. I'll be driving it a good distance today, so I'll update you guys and let you know if the car starts acting up again.

This is really weird how it's running well this morning, could the car just have over heated or fuel gotten in the wrong place?
