simple swap options for the fx?

Hey i just got a 1987 corolla fx, with the 4ac i think, after about a weeks worth of driving it started making a knocking noise at higher revs, i was at the junk yard and saw an 1989 corolla with a carb 4af (i think), would this engine just bolt in without any changes? or is 4ac and 3ac my simplest options?

thanks for the help, sorry for the "i thinks"

I think it will be a simple swap, but I am not sure.
You might have some slight wireing differences that could make it more than a straight swap, but I shouldn't think it will be anything major.
But like I said, I'm not sure.
Take a good look at the connectors that go to both engines and compare them (alternator, starter, sensors). You might be able to just swap those items from your old engine and have everything plug right up.

Modification: Changing something to what you thought it should have been from the start!
