Hello,
So I currently have an AE92, good, strong, small port red top engine, rotten, smashed body... But then I found this AE86! This is a Canadian car, the body is rusted, everything works, except the engine is blown, good thing I have one! There is a new trunk/strut mounts welded in, there isn't too much rust behind the back bumper like I hear most have. It has tar still on the underside protecting it. There is a few dings and dents all over it, no back seat and mismatched front seats, it has a welded rear diff with the 4.3 ratio. The sun roof is glued shut. The windshield looks like it was leaking and there is new glue all along the top. It would need a fair amount of body work, and an engine swap, and one day a real rear end, but the AE92 I am driving is more rusted, but running and I only paid $450 for it... I offered $1000, he said no, so I was thinking of offering $1500, I know the car is rare and I do like it, but I am wondering if its worth it... Any help?
I have pics, but I am not sure how to post them...
Rusted, beat up, blown motor, missing interior? I wouldn't pay more than $1000 for it. See if you can't get another ae92, or maybe a AE92 sedan in better shape and swap your motor into that if you can't find another AE86 for a good deal.
Even for a project or track car, that AE86 sounds like a lot of work and not quite worth what he's asking.
The welded diff probably means he drifted it, so that's a hint that it's had a hard life and there are probably lots of other "hidden" problems, especially if he's replaced the strut towers and trunk.
Yes, but there isn't much there it just shows a horible pic of the car at night and says it has a blown engine, I took more pics myself, but not sure how to post them.. Besides I don't want anyone to come in and take it! lol I can email pics if you pm me?
send me the link in a PM, i wont steal it from you lol, i have my own, join photobucket.com, upload the pics and use the "direct link" and paste it in the window that pops up when you click the "add a image" button
i know of this car.... already seen the for sale ad lol..
no its not worth anywhere near what hes asking.... 1000 what you offered is more than fair, 1200 tops, if not.... find something else... for 3g's you can buy a running driving AE86.... shit for 1200 you can buy a running driving one
lol well for 1200 itll likely be a huge POS but it will run lol.... look for one 2500-3500, running and it will be really decent, you just kinda gotta wait for them to pop up on kijiji, or join a Forum more specific to AE86's or old toyotas
I have been looking, but I am not finding anything! I expect there to be some rust, and I have another engine that I would probably put in it if it had a running engine anyways, but my only problem is the re-welding of the strut supports, and that there is a lot of rust in the rear end quarters. You guys are helping a lot! I guess I will just leave it at $1000, maybe $1200, but nothing more! I am going to see it again friday, is there anything I should really be looking for in the body? Anything that would make or break getting it?
The fronts are solid, the backs are new, which worries me, but means less work for me if they are done right. Te rockers have been repaired a bit before that I can tell, but they are not too bad. How could I check the back strut supports to see if they are alright?
