1986 Corolla DLX AE82 - Finding the Fuel Filter

Hi Everyone,

N00b question for you.. I am tuning up my beloved corolla and want to replace the fuel filter. I bought it and have seen where it is located on most models but it seems mine is different.

With the hood up on the left side of the engine bay is where most are located. Instead, here I have a similar object that says something along the lines of "pump" and I wonder if it's related to having cruise control.

This object has an in and out port which makes me believe it is also filtering the fuel however the replacement filter which I have bought is too large to replace this.

Could it be possible that it is an in-line filter located somewhere else along the fuel lines?

I just did timing belt, air filter, plugs, wires, etc.. and I'm getting inconsistent rough idling so I would like to get this changed out.

Any comments welcome.

on my 87' its mounted on the drivers side inner fender. Follow the line from the pump to that side and thats where the filter is.
