Auto trans shaft/stub play on AE82?

So I removed the CV axles from my '85 4AC AE82 with 3spd auto. I noticed that the shafts or stubs in the transmission (I don't know what to call them, the axles bolt onto them), have quite a bit of play in them. Is this normal?

well those pieces are part of your differential. As long as your transmission isn't making a horrible rotational noise it shouldn't be that big of a deal... If you were going to fix the play in them you would have to take your transmission apart and rebuild it

Thanks for the help, no one else seems to know what I'm talking about, lol. The trans never made any noise, but the play is pretty bad. Guess it gives me another reason to swap to a manual
