I recently picked up a new daily drifter. A 1981 Toyota Corolla Deluxe Wagon, found it on Craigslist and traded my P.O.S 98 Ford Ranger to it straight up. It is a automatic car with a 5-speed swap. It has a 3TC, not sure on the year, not even sure if it is the original engine. The car is in okay shape. The body is a lil beat up, and has some bondo, but for the most part its okay. I've had it for a little over a month now. When I first got it, it was a little sluggish. So I gave it a basic tune-up. I changed the oil and filter, distributor cap and button and the plug's and wires. When I got it it smoked a little and when I changed the plug's I discovered why. It needed new ring's so I ordered a set along with a new OEM head gasket set and a set of ARP head studs and was waiting for the time to tear into it. It rained the other day so I took it out and played a little just to see how it handled trying to drift and blew a head gasket, LOL. So now I am finishing that. It already had a set of 14 ich P-Type's or L-Type's, not really sure, with some AE86 SR5 Mag center caps, header with 2inch straight pipe into a OEM muffler and a Weber carburetor. I cut the muffler off and put a boso-style exhaust on, it's so loud, it's actually too loud so I am putting a muffler or cherry bomb or something on it to quieten it down. I also added a K & N air filter and removed the front bumper, did't have the rear bumper when I got it and I have added and about 100HP worth of..... STICKERS!
I plan on restoring the interior, with a few slight personal touches. I am more than likely leaving it the color it is because it's awesome, needs a little body work and a fresh spray. I don't plan on adding any boost, I am wanting it all motor. Plan on rebuilding the 3TC, 11.5 pistons, eagle rods, etc. with some side draft carburetor's. I don't want any crazy power, like 400HP or anything, I will be happy with 250-300 max. If I do end up doing a engine swap, the only one I would even consider would be a Beams 3SGTE VVT-I Swap.
As far as the suspension goes I am going with the AE86 front suspension and brake swap. I am having trouble finding any information on doing the rear suspension and brake swap, so I am not sure about that. yet. For the differential I am going to do the AE86 or MA60 Supra swap, not sure, but for now I'll just weld the open differential. I am getting new, longer, u-bolts made to go with some Chevy S-10 drop blocks I modifed that I'm going to use.
From what I have read and been told the front suspension swap is cake, just use my TE top hats, but the brake swap, rear suspension swap and diff swap is what has me a little confused so if anyone knows, let me know please.
This is my first offical OLD-SKOOL car so I am kinda new to this part of the scene, but not my first Toyota. I also currently have a 88 X7 Cressida drift project that I am also working on, when I start on it again I will do a build thread for that rust bucket, lol.
Here are a few pics of the wagon.I'll update this when I start on it and swapping everything.
