3rd Generation 1976 Corolla SR5 Engine Swap

I have a blown head gasket, so It's time to get a new engine. I currently have the 2TC engine, but I'm looking to put a small truck engine in it. Any suggestions?

I recently posted a similar question for my 79....I got some good answers. Rather that retype the whole thing, checkout the thread called simple swaps just below yours. The 20/22r swaps seem to be slightly more common in (old school) celicas, but oddly enough not so much in corollas. At anyrate I hope seeing my thread will help you out some. Btw, I dont know details, but I have heard of 3tc blocks with 2tc heads...that otself wont make a screamer, but a solid platform to start on. another common swap is the 4age....but I personally dont care for the complexity of (factory) f/i, but am considering the holley pro-jection unit

Why not just simply replace the headgasket on the 2TC. It is one of the easiest engines to work on. And replacing the headgasket even when combined with other stuff (like valve guides, valve seals, a new timing chain and oil pan reseal) is still cheaper than a swap to a 22R that is not going to net you any noticeable improvment. Also any swap motor is going to require you use a different transmission, driveshaft, custom mounts, cooling system setup, and wiring. The 2TC is bullet proof and can be built to some serious numbers. Check out 3tcgarage.com for more in depth info.

Thanks for the input. Fixing up the 2TC was the rout I ended up taking. You're right about it being a sturdy engine. It's just about up and running. I'm definitely looking into souping this car up, but for a while. I love my car and I'm going make it shine someday.
