I assume it runs poorly or at a fast idle? From what I'm reading out of this post is that you are some what mechanically inclined and you decided to change your distributor because of a no start condition?
With that being said, I believe you have the distributor in there correctly! It sounds like you have the cam off 1 to 2 teeth! The number 1 tower on the cap points at the 4a-c on the valve cover! But with the timing light being off 30 plus degrees (ignition timing being 4-10) I would bet money your timing belt is off just a touch.....
