94 corolla rear speaker help

Ive just now got my sony Xplod- XS-V1630A 6.5 speakers shipped to me. I now have a problem installing it. I cant get the rear carpet to come out and i dont know which screw to unscrew because theres like 20. The rear carpet (where the rear speakers are) will lift up in the front, but in the back (where the brake light is) it wont budge. Could someone help me or possible give me a step by step in depth guide on how to install rear speakers for my car? That would be greatly appreciated.

remove the brake light by taking out the 2 plastic pins on the side of it, and make sure the clips are released for the carpet to come up(check in trunk to push in clips)

You have to take off the side panels (the things that the rear seatbelts go into). These are held on on the outside visibly with a plastic pin near the top which needs to be pried up and pulled out. They are held on on the inside with 3 plastic pins, the third of which is hard to put back in later, but not essential, but it might rattle later if you dont.

After the panels, take the brake light cover off. Push IN on the two pins on the sides of it and part of it pops off. The rest you unscrew the two bolts and pop off the wire. Now fold down the seats and pop off the "carpet". Have fun!

Hint: Get a Haynes repair manual. They're like $15 anywhere or get one from your local library.

Hey Ukrainian, I could not find the plastic pins on the side pannels. My side pannels have no pins at all. I see that I need to remove them though, because its keeping the carpet from lifting.

Hmmm..........don't know if the Prizm's different, but I did not have to remove the side panels on my Prizm.

Simply remove the 3rd brake light. (pins as mentioned, then a couple small bolts & unplug the electrical connector for the light & you're done).

Then push up the white colored plastic retainers from inside the trunk......(you'll need pliers for this & preferably regular as the needle nose will keep slipping. Just close them a bit and push up). Don't push up the black ones 'cuz those are simply holding your wiring harness.

Next....(while you're butt's still stickin' outta' the trunk).....push the metal clips that you can see intermittently thru the holes in the very back part......(the part closest to the rear windhsield). If you look up under your trunk in that deck area, opposite of where those white retainers were, you'll see the metal clips. Stick your fingers thru the holes where you can and push them forward & up.....(you'll see what I mean when you see them).

Then get outta the trunk, sit backwards in the back seat & squeeze your fingers under the front edge of that deck. Start pulling up & you'll slightly arch that carpeted fiberboard. It'll fuss a smidge, but just keep lifting up & it'll come right out. Remember that board's flexible, so don't be afraid to lift.

No need to remove the side panels.........at least not in the Prizm.
