Dash Lights Out

I have a 96 Toyota Corolla, I recently purchased an aftermarket stereo and when I installed it everything works perfectly, however the Dash lights went out, I checked the Fuses under the Driverside dash-all the fuses seemed to be okay. I disconnected the stereo to see if the Dash lights would come back on, nope.

Has anyone had this problem before, any suggestions?

Thanks

it's a fuse....
i had that same problem.. but i looked in the fuses an there was a 15 blown... and it means your tailights, dash lights, and your markers are all out aren't they?

check the fuses again.

Hey New'rolla!

BTW check the fuses under the hood by the battery also, there could be a fuse/relay in there that could have got burnt if you put the wrong wires together or if you grounded a power wire.

I had the same problem. The harness from the car to the factory radio has a wire for the dash lights that shows up as ground with the light off. When the lights are on the wire is 12V+. Check to see if you connected the ground from the new stereo to this wire. The radio will work perfect but everytime you turn thr park light on the fuse will blow...and the radio will continue to work. There should be a ground wire in the harness as well, ensure you connect the ground from the new stereo to this wire.

This worked for me...I hope this helps.

same case with my corolla. But only lights at the air-cond cotroller. Is it due to fuse or some wires not connected?

Hey guys I have a 2002 jdm corolla wagon. I switched the original clock for one that has a tach. It actually came from a. AE 100. My car uses coil pack instead of a distibutor, my problem is the tachometer does not work after rewiring. How do I FIX THIS FOR THE TACH TO WORK.

Hey,
I only signed up for this site because the info on dash lights being out... it helped me fix my 1996 Previa in which I changed the stereo out.. and the dash lights would not come on, but when I tested them there was power, I couldn't figure it out till I read this sites helpful threads. Thank you so much for the HELP. Never would have thought to check the harnness connections for a lead to power up when I switch on the park lights.... THANK YOU AGAIN I_touring_dude for the help!!!

I think this is probably the most common issue I've seen with our corollas. Check the wiring for your stereo harness. There are two orange wires, one is dimmer, one is dimmer ground. These should NOT be connected. Cut them and tape the ends off. If you did wire these together, you probably fried the dimmer rheostat, in which case your lights won't come on unless you replace this. Check the resistance on the rheostat. You also may or may not need to replace your radio/cig outlet or other fuses. Get the rheostat at a junkyard for like $15 and save yourself about $150 over toyota

Edit: oops, didn't realize this was a really old thread.
