Axle Nut size.. Anybody?

1993 Corolla.. Anybody know the axle nut size.. I've been to Sears multiple times and cant get the right size.. It's not a 32mm or a 36mm.. My local sears and lowes doesn't sell anything in between those.. Maybe its an american size not a metric..Any help would be greatly appreciated.. I was hoping to get my "clicking" cv joints fixed tonight but looks like I'll be back at sears tomorrow once I find out the correct size.. Thanks in advance..

It's not a 32mm or a 36mm.

Cant remember offhand what it is, but that still leaves 33-35mm sizes. Anyways, its not imperial, its metric. go to a better toolstore.

Well you're wrong on that one because I have a 32mm and its too small.. I'm thinking its a 34 but those sockets are hard to find around here.. Thanks for the input..

every toyota i've touched is a 30mm...... that includes ae92's, aw11's, sw20 n/a & turbo, camry, etc....

so your car probably has aftermarket axles on it.... could be sae

Is Napa Auto in your area? I loaned a set of various sizes from them in the past. You get your money back upon tool return.

You sure its not 30, My socket set goes up to 32, but the biggest I've ever used on a car is a 30mm. And I removed dam near every bolt on my car.

Yes you guys were correct.. It was indeed a 30mm.. Now I have to admit my stupidity.. I did not realize that the axle nut was behind the little star shaped cover.. I was trying to find a socket for the star cover.. Yes call me dumb.. But hey I'm learning... My axle replacement and ball joints are new.. And now I can say that I finally did something on my own and saved a good chunk of money.. Yes I made an ass of myself but hey, we all make mistakes..

I had no idea that star thing was a cover, I called a few parts shops asking for a weird socket that would fit it. I didn't want to try pulling apart the whole thing without the right socket, and I wanted to "practice" pulling apart a junkyard car before trying it "for real", now I'll try pulling the pin and prying off the cover.

This is exactly the info I've been looking for, I didn't see a cover mentioned in the Chilton book or in any other posts I'd found yet. Thanks!

Its a lock. The cotter pin holds the cap and stops the nut from backing off if it were to try to. Once you pull the cotter pin out the cap should fall off.

I pulled the pin out and the cover did fall off, if I'd looked real close with a flashlight I would've seen the nut behind the cover, and it actually was mentioned in the Chilton book, but I read through it too quickly since I was going to "warm up" by hacking apart a junkyard car first

FYI, the 87-89 Camry, and 89 Corollas all appear to have 30mm axle nuts, I'm guessing all Toyotas from the 80's and probably most of the 90's would too.
