If you live in Toronto and area, you don't really need the best tires out there, as long as you have "snow tires" period, you're good to go.

Snow tires don't work on Icey conditions, unless you pay extra for the "Ice and Snow" which of course only work on ice to certain extent anyways.

BTW, if you're looking for a set of snows, I have a set of 185/65-14 S-rated snow tires for sale already on Corolla steel wheels, I used them for 1 season.

I have had hakkapelita on my miata and they were awesome, I live in MOntreal
but in Toronto you don't really have to have the best tire, try to find a good set of second hand tires, but don't forget to check for the manufacturing year as winter tires (softer rubber) tend to try faster than summer tires...don't buy a tire older than 2 years old.
