Do you mean that they give the wrong speed and mileage below 60 or that they don't turn at all?

Here is the true scoop (my daughter's car). The odometer does not work at all, the speedo stays at zero until roughly 30-40 mph then jumps to 65 or so and stays there until you drop back down to somewhere below 30 then drops to zero and stays.
thanks folks.

a kinked cable can do funny things, but I thought the Corollas older than 91 or 92 had electronic speedo?

Did you ever get an answer to your speedo problem? I'm having the same problem. What you described is exactly the same. Th Haynes manual as well as my local mechanic said to replace the speed sensor. I replaced the sensor and the speedo is doing the same thing.

i'd go after the gauge, if the spring inside has broken it can do funny things like that.

No, I haven't resolved the problem yet. I purchased a used shop service manual just for that year Prizm. With the trouble shooting I did I am 99% sure it is the speedo head. The quote I got was $165, ouch! Still haven't sprung for that yet.
Please folllow up this post if you fix it.
Thanks.
