Question 94 Corolla DX acting up...

My beloved little Brianna (shut up ) has been doing some weird things lately. First of all, when I shift from 1st to 2nd it reverberates a fairly hard clunk back up through the shifter. Then, after about 30-40 minutes of driving I start to hear this horrendous screech, not very loud, but it sounds like metal on metal, and it comes and goes, but it completely stops when I'm on the brakes. If anyone can offer any help, I'd greatly appreciate it.

You should post a video up of the problem in action.

It'll surely get more helpful responses.

it sounds like your transmission is hurting, id check the fluid, the clunk is probably a syncro problem try double clutching the shift see if it still does it.

this screaching i donno i would have to hear it to figure it out

You should check your brakes if the screech stops when you press the brake pedal. Take off the wheels and drums and look.

The clunk could be from many things. Start by checking your motor mounts.

OK, let me clear some things up: I changed my tranny fluid about 2 weeks ago hoping to solve the clunk problem; nothing changed. I had already taken off all four tires and basically disassembled the front discs to check for wear, I'm thinking somehow I didn't put those metal V-shaped retaining clips on right and that might be the problem. And now, my brakes are making another weird noise: When I come to a complete stop and I reach about 10 MPH, it makes a vrrrrr noise that lowers in pitch until I stop. My brakes are really starting to scare me now.
