Help with finding 5AFE ecu and harness

Hola Toyota folks! I am looking to put a 5AFE in my VW baja bug as they are among some of the cheapest JDM engines. I know where to get the engine, adapter (to vw trans), and radiator. However, I don't know where I can get an ECU and wiring harness to get the engine running.

I was looking for an ECU on eBay, and found one out of a 95 corolla, here is a picture of the engine in the car:
This is a 5AFE correct?

Thanks for all your help!
Cheers, Russell

that could be 5afe, 4afe, or 7afe. hard to tell.

the 4afe computer should run a 5afe just fine.

honestly if you can fit it, go for the 7afe. the torque down low will make it much more pleasurable to drive.

There are some 4AFE cars at my local junk yard, could I use the harness and ecu from those? Won't the engine management be different? Especially if the 4A has TVIS?

I was planning on upgrading to a 4AGE later, as it does not fit into by build budget. It uses the same adapter plate, so the swap should be fairly painless. I still need to know where to a harness. Is there a way I can identify a 5AFE car at a junkyard? Or were they even available in the USA?

5afe was outside the US. just get a running junkyard 7afe with uncut harness and PCM, trust me when i say that it will have loads more haul ass than the 5afe or 4afe, the 7afe has the same peak power output numbers as the early 4age's do but the torque is all there from about 2500rpm on up till 6000 rpm.

That will probably work, but since I will be racing the bug I don't know if I want a high mileage junkyard engine. That is why the JDM engine is so tantalizing, it is relatively fresh and can be run hard for a decent amount of time. The amount of power difference does not matter very much to me, as even a 5AFE is more powerful than a well built 1600 DP vw engine.
If the 7AFE harness and ecu will work, I might just get those items from a yard. Do you know of anyone with a 7th gen corolla that has installed a JDM 5AFE in their car? (because of a blown or high mileage engine, or something like that.)

honestly, who knows how many miles are really on that 'jdm' engine. its been out of production for atleast 10 years, and even if it is low miles then it may have been sitting for a long period of time out in the weather which is bad for an engine, worse than having some miles.

not to mention, are you figuring how much shipping is going to be? you can snag a 7afe locally for under $1000 and then crack the oil pan off, knock a rod cap off and check how it looks. odds are its fine, if not then parts are cheap and its as easy to re-build than the flat 4.

dude, i've ridden lawnmowers that are more powerful than the 1600cc VW flat 4 LOL. we have a 78 bus in the shop right now.
