crnak shaft timing gear

My sister has a 93 1.8. I went to put a new timing belt and tensioner on, but the crank timing gear is damaged. It looks like the crank key machined about a 30 degree groove in the timing gear. I will try to post pics. I'm not sure how it happened. The key is somewhat distorted. Has anyone else had this with the 1.8? The harmonic balancer seems to be alright also.

Previous owner when servicing it may have forced it on? I find it odd and am curious to see pictures.
As long as the key way in the crank is ok, the key is a dollar from the dealer. Id replace it and see if the crank pulley slides on properly and lines up.

hmm definiely need to see a pic of what you mean exactly because i for one am confused


it may have been caused by a mechanic who didnt tighten the balancer bolt


or something else could have happened


but im unsure what damage has occured to it exactly


so i dont know what possible causes etc maye be


yet


until we can see a pic or two of it

Drop me a line and I'll send the pic. Tried to reduce the size of the pic but still doesn't download. The crank gear wasn't 140 ft/lb tight but it must have been at least 50 ft/lb. Obviously not enough for the timing gear to walk on the crank. Anyway I'll send pics if wanted. 69johng@gmail.com
