New to the forum and have a question already (exhaust manifold)

Hi, I am new to the forum and I just wanted to introduce myself and ask a question. I just came into ownership of a 1994 Corolla base 4afe through a trade. I really like the car and I plan on hanging on to it. However, the prior owner did not feel this way apparently and I have a list of things that need to be fixed. The major fix needed is the cracked exhaust manifold. I ordered one and it is finally here! I want to put it on but I really wanted to know the torque specs for the bolts and could not find it on the net or by searching through the vast amount of Corolla knowledge on this site. My Chiltons is on order but, sadly, has not come yet. Would anybody happen to have those torque specs for the exhaust manifold? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, from what I have read so far this seems like it is a great online community and that it is filled with even greater members. Thanks. Jon

If I remember right it's maybe 22 ft/lbs.. but you best get the right number out of a shop manual or call Napa or the dealer..

oil those nuts and bolts up, or else you might break some then you are screwed..

Haynes manual says:
Exhaust manifold nuts/bolts 25 ft-lbs
Exhaust manifold brace bolts 43 ft-lbs

Thanks guys for the information. A quick question, what is the difference between the manifold brace bolts and the regular nuts/bolts? Thanks again

you may have a hard time getting the original ones off, I would replace the nuts and bolts too. Get a can of PB Blaster, you're more then likely going to need it.

The regular nuts/bolts retain the manifold to the cylinder head. The brace supports the manifold from underneath, where the exhaust pipe is bolted to the manifold.
