Finish or garnish trim piece that fits on the bottom of the trunk opening lip. Middle rectangular opening fits over trunk lock mechanism. Bottom side of this piece should have tabs that fits into slots on the lip!

These things seem to get drug off easily. I hae two 97 Corollas, and that thing has both come off both of them. Now they are just like yours, doing nothing but taking up space in the trunk.

You can get black tabs at most parts stores like those used to hold the rest of the trunk interior in place. Mark were the retainers are and drill holes through the piece. (4)? Push the tabs through the holes to hold the piece in place.

Why not just go to the junkyard and get yank some replacement clips?

I would imagine that the trunk would look pretty ghetto without that trim piece.

If he's missing the clips that would work. What I see most is the molded plastic tabs get broken off the piece. The round button type seem to hold fairly well once pushed into the clips. Or he could maybe find a good one at the salvage.

These things can easily pop off when putting stuff in or taking stuff out the trunk. I would just get some parts from a junk yard and put it back on. I prefer it on there IMO
