Does anyone know the part number for the starter repair kit for a 97? I want to replace my contacts.
Thanks

There are several parts involved in the kit, but I believe part 28226 and 28226A are the main ones

just go to any toyota dealer and buy the kit. It cost me about $30 CAD but I believe in the USA, it costs less, everything costs less in the USA!

here is the schematics:

I appreciate the help. I guess there is no difference between the Prizm and Corolla starter contacts. I hope.

I don't know for sure but I believe the Prizm and Corolla powertrain and engine parts are interchangeable

how do you know the contacts are bad? the starter just clicks when you start the engine?

did you remove the starter from the car already?

I'm having a false start/Intermittent start problem. I just replaced the plugs, cap, and rotor and it still doesn't start on the first try all the time. It was making a loud clicking sound a few months back but its not as noticeable now.

The battery was replaced a few months ago and the cables are securely attached. I'm going to try changing the contacts and fuel filter and see if that doesn't cure the problem. If not I'll call it a day. The car has never left me stranded it just takes turning it over 2 or 3 times sometimes to get it started.

the symptoms were very similar to the ones I experienced last year. Once in a while, I turn the ignition key and nothing happens or just a single click sound. It took everytime a few attempts and the car will eventually start. The frequency of the failure increase more and more until I finally decided to remove the starter.

Removing the starter is only 2 bolts and disconnect the ground wire from its body. Access to the starter is a bit awark, I had to play contortionist a bit, removing with me laying belly flat on top of the engine compartment to access it

Start with the starter contact first. I don't think the fuel filter has anything to do, removing the lower fuel fitting from it is very tight by the way.
