I have a new-ish tach and it says to get light from it you need to connect this wire to the instrument panel light circuit, But i dont know where its at. I dont have my repair manual with the wiring diagram. can anyone help me out?..does anyone have a wiring diagram? i need to find a good source for power from the fuse box that cuts out when i turn the car off.

So, do you want the tach to light up all the time, or just when the parking light is on? A great, easy place is behind the radio... there are wires there for both power sources. If you replaced your radio, this should be no problem for you!
yea its a aftermarket radio. how and where do i put the wire? i didnt put the radio in..and which spot do i put the the power wire in the fuse box? i know each number means somthing. just dont know what..
Oh, if you didn't install the radio, maybe the wires aren't marked.... you could pull out the radio and see what the wires look like.... I can't remember what the wire colors were, though...
Let's see, found an old pic
It might not help much, but on my radio wires, you can see that they are labeled. Looking at this pic, I remember. The red fused wire is the ignition/key turn power. The yellow wire is the battery. The black wire is the ground.
this helps out alot! so i can splice power to the battery wire and the lights to the ignition on/off wire? and of course the black to the ground..or my power to the on/off wire and the lights to the battery wire...i confused myself..do you know what im trying to say? I have 4 wires..red(power),black(ground), green(distributor),and white is the lights..
Radio Constant 12V+ Wire: Blue/Yellow (aka Battery)
Radio Switched 12V+ Wire: Gray ( AKA Ignition)
Radio Ground Wire: Brown
Radio Illumination Wire: Green

No, you don't want to wire anything to your battery.... i believe. The power should be to the red wire, and the lights should wire to the parking/night light. This way, the tach will have power when you turn on the engine, and it will light up at night with the first head light switch turn. The distributor wire, you know where to run that? You might have the wire at the tachometer already.... if not, the wire goes here:
If you look under the hood and you see 4 wires already, you have the wire behind the gauge cluster. I did, so I just swapped the tach cluster in and it worked.
I sure would love to get a factory tach cluster for our Rolla. I can't stand not seeing the engine speed even if it is a POS slushbox. But I hate aftermarket tachs up on the pillar worse
In that image... just wire it to the black wire, under the green one... that is where I wired my monster tach in my old rolla. see here -

Just look for an LE cluster at a local junkyard or on ebay, they pop up from time to time.

I got my tach but my corolla has two connectors by the distributor. one with 2wires and on with 6 wires. mine is the 1.6L. the pics show a 4wire connector. which one do i use in the 1.6L
Yeah I looked for one once (did a similar swap on my old base Camry), but didn't like the prices I saw
You're preaching to the choir, brother! Local boneyards want $100+ for an instrument cluster and EBay isn't any better. I could probably build my own for less than that
