Are you hearing engine noise changes?

I think distributor first. Have you checked the cap? Checked for wet plugs after the "no power"?

changed cap and rotor and plugs about a month ago. the only engine noise i hear is a clunking in the front middle while i drive. also when i hit a u-turn and floor it shuts off for a second then turns back on. i changed the right passenger motor mount, the middle front, and have to change the drivers side. still get a litte vibration while idle and cruising at 40-60 mph. new tires and balance/alignment about three months ago. next its the cracked exhaust manifold. about to install headers wednesday. hoping to get some power back with that. i kno its bad when grandma in the same car next to me takes off and i cant catch up lol. i mean the car does not move for anything!!!! any advice is welcome

again, you need to do a full tune up, fuel pumps usually don't go bad in these cars. Replace all your filters. The clunking sound you describe? Is it a constant sound that increases in speed as you increase rpm or mph?

So, you reset the ECU and then now you are experiencing this intermittent performance? If so, your ECU needs to recalibrate itself... it WILL run like that until it figures out how to optimally run the engine.... I swear, every single time my battery dies or I reset the ECU, I have this same exact problem. So, I drive around a lot, and eventually the car starts running great again, nice and quick.

i just seafoamed the car and all of the smoke came out of the crack in my exhaust manifold. not only that, the smoke came out of the manifold gasket too! so now i found out the alot more air has been leaking out of the manifold. so after i replace the manifold with the headers i should be running good

Make sure to use a spray sealant goop when you do! I didn't the first time, and it leaked all over. Took it apart and sprayed the copper-like stuff on the flanges/gaskets and it was all good.

goldcorolla is right.

If you get an aftermarket header, that gasket it comes with, will not fit, (his didn't, I've read your entire corolla blog on Car Domain) and remember that the spray sealant, along with a new stock gasket, is what your going to need.

mine fit fine, but i got a new graphite gasket from felpro because i just didn't like how the gasket that came with it looked. i guess i got lucky. make sure you don't put the gasket on backwards....

HAHA you bet my gasket didn't fit!!!

That's what I get for buying the most expensive headers (OBX). I suppose if you don't get an OBX one you get one that fits. Thing is, the OBX one fit the headers fine, but since those pipes have a larger diameter than the block, the result is what you see above. I couldn't figure out why it was making so much noise at first LOL.

So yeah, I needed the new stock gasket and the spray copper like adhesive sealer.
