Hi everyone im new to this site and just bought a 1994 corolla 5spd as a commuter car. Is there anyone of knowing if i have a 1.6L or 1.8L engine in my car?
maybe you can look at the tail of your car, if it has a DX badge, u have 1.8, or if in the door sticker says AE102
about 3 weeks ago I was given a left for dead 95 rolla DX by my sister who had moved on to a late model Camry... it needed some body work around the rear wheels and rocker panels and an exhaust. body work is all done now with all new sheet metal welded in to place (i am not a bondo guy) and I have only glanced under the hood, the sticker clearly says 1.6 liter, I know the car, they have had it since new, nothing was every replaced... where some of the DX's shipped with 1.6? the car has no options what so ever... I will have to look at this a little closer I guess before I start t give it a tune up... and buy all the wrong parts lol

Check the sticker in the door like was suggested. OR>..... look at your oxygen sensor on the manifold, if it has 2 bolts holding it on , it is 1.8, if it is screw in, it is 1.6.
Any 1.8L automatic will have an overdrive button. No DXs were 1.6L, no 1.6L had overdrive.
i have checked, its a corolla DX, and its a 1.6 liter... so your statement is incorrect

so it's a DX because someone stuck a DX on the trunk, but you have no options and the weaker engine. You should take that DX off lol.
lol, they are both go cart engines anyway, 200cc more, seriously... its a 14 year old elderly lady class econobox that is a winter beater, i couldnt care less whether its a DX or not... nor will anyone else on the road...
just a thought, perhaps this has something to do with it being a Canadian corolla?? often trim levels differ between the 2 countries...

its not so much the 200CC difference as it is the fact that the bore to stroke ratios are different (among other differences in the PCM) which give the 1.8 a much much nicer torque curve that makes driving alot nicer.
