Hi everybody!!! I want to share with you this great way to improve the overall lightning of our beloved corollas, keeping always the OEM look. I bought from eBay a set of used 1990 - 1993 Celica GTS fog lights in good condition, and installed with the original brackets provided. My idea: in case of a bulb change, I only need to remove the assembly without remove the entire front bumper. Took me about 6 hours, 4 for the first one (a slow step learning curve) and 2 for the other (is a pain in the a** to keep them and the light beam properly aligned with the other beams), but at the end the result couldn't be better. Because this is a OEM assembly, it has the hability to control, using a small bolt, the light beam height. And the best, the light pattern has improved, no more "black holes" and "hidden areas" anymore! I wire it using a relay attached to the low beam positive cable as a signal, this because I don't want to have other switch in my dash....enjoy!!!
OEM brackets attached in the bumper fiberglass inner reinforcement
Thanks guys! I want to try (maybe next year) to put in it a H.I.D. system. I hope to improve (more if I can say) the light beam pattern this way, but until then, I'm very happy with this setup.
Yeah, those fit perfect! I wonder why they don't make /sell fogs like these for the car....it's like a hidden secret. you'll be amazed with an HID kit for sure, but you'll blind everyone!
self-taping screws, or you can start the hole with a drill. I have found that to be a very nice, study place to mount stuff.... I've had 2-3 fog lights on there and my bumper now screws to it.
how did you screw it to the bumper reinforcement? thanks. great fit!
Thanks! I first trimed the bumper (a slow process) so the foglight assembly could be removed without remove the entire bumper. Second step, I temporaly wired the foglights so the beams could be seen, this help me a lot for choose the right drill points for the brackets in the fiberglass inner reinforcement. Then, like gold94corolla say, I used self-taping screws for the brackets.
Three good things of this setup: 1st the assembly lens are of glass, this is important because the 55 watt H3 I used generate a lot of heat (the assemblies are small) and, in my opinion, can deteriorate a plastic lens in short time. 2nd, because the OEM brackets provided were used, I have the ability of set the light beam height using a small screw on it, so I can "fill" the "blind zones" of the normal lights, and set it up for don't blind others cars. And third, because the entire assembly is mounted in a fixed and strong point of the car, it don't bounce (so the light beams) when the car hit a irregular part of the road.
I wired the fog lights using a 15amp fuse, and a Bosh relay. I take the signal for this relay, using the positive terminal of the right low beam headlight assembly. I choose this way because, unless I could find a original AE10X button, I don't want a race like or similar button in my dash...like you can see, I like the OEM look!!!
Ahhh so you can't turn off the lights... they are always on with the head lights? Lots of people wire them to turn on with the parking light... the first click! I personally wired my fogs to my ignition switch.... so whenever the key is turned, the fogs turn on (see sig)... just like the radio!
