1996 Corrolla 1.6 to 1.8 swap

I found a 1.8 from an 1996 corrolla to replace my 1.6 on my 96 corrolla (1.6 is dead)

Just need a confirmation that it will fit and I won't have any problem with the computer.
Also, are the spark plugs and drive belts for alernator and PS the same

Thanks!

The alternator might be different.... and you'll need the 1.8 computer for sure.

It seems that the wiring harness is the same for the 4A and 7A. The only difference is the 7A has what I think a knock sensor in the center ot the rear block.
If I am not using it, I'm wondering if the 4A ECU will do the job or I have to have a 7A ecu
Thanks!

I know that there is a different computer based on your engine and tranny.... so it's safe to say you will need the ECU.

Wouldn't need to swap transmissions too if you have a 3 speed auto due to the 3 speed on the 1.6 being mechanically controlled versus the electronically controlled 4 speed that came with the 1.8? Or would it not matter? I'm not sure the wiring harness is the same between the 1.6 and the 1.8 because of this.

Alternator is the same though; these cars came with either a Delco 80 amp (could weather package) or a Denso 70 amp. they look different, and I believe they say Delco and Denso on them. They both work regardless of engine, but I would use the Delco if I had the option. No clue about the belts though. Out of interest, why are you not just putting another 1.6 in?

If your swapping engines, your also going to need to swap computers. Maybe even a harness too, since the 4 speed has another plug on it that the 3 speed harness does not have.

Thanks to all,
I will send back the 1.8 and make sure i get a 1.6. I asked for a 1.6 and they sold me what they tought to be a 1.6 but reveal to be a 1.8. I found out by trying to replace the timing belt.
For sure i don't want to wast my time swapping the harness, computer etc. So i will get a 1.6 and make sure it's really a 1.6
