1996 Corolla stereo

My 1996 corolla recently got the stereo stolen out the dash. Actually the proper term would be ripped out or forced because they ripped out one brackets taking along the part where it actually screws into. My question is how can I go about installing a new stereo when i have nowhere to screw my new brackets?

I'd say you pull the piece out of a Corolla in a junkyard... though I don't really know where it's connected. You could also put a double din unit where the little box is behind the cup holder and just abandon the factory slot.

I would try a junkyard, or go to dealer
Sorry to hear that. It must have been an aftermarket radio right? I doubt anyone would want to steal a stock radio?

Ill have to check one out.
It was a Sony CDX-CA650X not the newest but still got the job done.
How would I go about putting the double din in? The closest I saw to fitting a stereo in the lower dash was a Metra 99-8101

It's probably pretty easy to do, just remove the cubby, feed the stock wires down, connect everything up, mount the double din unit (should have brackets or something) and you should be good to go. I've never done this, but I've seen it done before.

Most double din decks are out of my price range though :/
Wiring it wont be a problem im just concerned about mounting and having it move around while i drive.

True, they do tend to be rather expensive. I suppose you could get an adapter kit, perhaps like the one in your link. The mounts should be sturdy enough to prevent movement.

That's quite unlucky as I believe that's part of the dash now that I look at it. You could try cutting that bit out of a junked corolla and gluing it in place where the other was ripped out.

I went and took a look at the car again and there is hope for the lower dash install. Im going to research about getting a new dash depending on the cost but heres what the bracket that survived looks like now.

That is only one of the mounts. There 3 other mounting places. You can easily mount a radio back into that area with no problem. Just make sure you install rubber grommets with the other 3 mount locations to absorb vibrations.

haha that pic came from my page????? I don't remember where LOL. (edit, I found it LOL).

As you all might know, I swapped out my entire dash for the Prizm one. This new dash does not have a radio slot at all! So, I had to mount a double-din unit instead of the storage box thing. It was expensive sure, but that is because I got one with all of the features, including GPS. Mine was $450, but the same one without GPS was $199. It might be in your price range..... and it mounted sooooo easy. Just unscrew the box from the metal brackets and screw in the unit.

As for your radio, I'm not sure what they took/broke. Do you have both metal pieces, or did they take one?

I HAVE BOTH AND I DON"T NEED THEM, I WILL GIVE YOU THE ONE YOU NEED!!!!!

OR, did they break the dash like you circled in my pic.... IF SO, I HAVE THE DASH AND I WILL GIVE YOU THAT PIECE.... you'll need to glue it in there strong but it will work.

Let me know!

The right side bracket must still attached to the radio and the left one Isnt usable anymore.
The part that broke is actually part of the dash.
The right side is snapped off and missing and the left is twisted. I'll take a picture now that it's day time
