Brake and tire problems

Whenever I press the brake to stop the pedal goes down really low. So for the car to stop I have to press down low. Why is this? And for some reason both my back tires' tread keeps wearing out really quick. This is the second time I have to replace the back tires in one year. Please help.

There's air in the brakes lines which is causing you to have to press down more to stop.

Get the entire brake system completely flushed to cure the problem. Also check the condition of the brake lines if the have never been inspected for leak or damage.

The tires wearing out sound like an alignment problem. Take it to a shop that offers printouts of the alignment specs after they finish the job.

Did you do any work to the brakes? Is there fluid in the reservoir? Is there oil on the inner side of your tires or puddled under the car?

Do you skid a lot at stops? How many miles/ year? Back tires should last well longer than front tires if you don't rotate them. Are you sure they weren't rotated to the front without you remembering?

Bleed your system at the points where you had work done recently. Make sure you get more brake fluid. Get 2 or 3 large bottles, just to be sure.

If the problem still persists, bleed it at all 3 points. If it still persists, you have a bad line somewhere or the master cyc. may need to be changed.

Yep, everyone is right. Air in the brake system, or something wrong with the caliper/brake pads (but that's rare to never)

Either you or someone did a bad brake job, you have a loose brake reservoir cap, or you have a damaged brake hose and air is coming in. Check for leaks under the car, bleed the brake system, and check brake hoses for damage.

Is your brake fluid low and needs to be filled, or is it constant?

Ok guys thanks. I'm going to try all those things. And I do have brake fluid. I'll report back with results.

As mentioned, don't overlook the master cylinder. They do go out and they can show symptoms as you described.
