Canada Crankshaft Issues

I have a 1993 Toyota Corolla 4dr sedan LE w/ 4AFE engine, 3 speed auto trans. The crankshaft has snapped outside the engine at the steering/alternator pulley. Can this be repaired, or am I looking at engine replacement/swap? Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks.

LE's only came with the 1.8L 7A-FE engine.

If yours has the 4A-FE and 3-speed auto, then it's not an LE.

He's from Canada... apparently things work differently up there. Anyway, polecat999, I'd say if the crankshaft breaks the engine is pretty much shot unless you want to go through a lot of trouble and actually replace it.

Canada Swap 4AFE

I gather it's best to replace the engine, then.

I've had my eye on the JDM 4AGE Black top 20 Valve engine. If I understand correctly, the 4AGE will bolt directly into the engine compartment without engine mount modification. The automatic tranny (also included with the JDM engine I'm considering) may require the modification of one mount (check me on this, though). Does the JDM 4AGE meet Canadian emission requirements? I remember reading somewhere that the EGR valve and some other emission equipment is missing. If the engine doesn't meet Canadian requirements, can it be modified into compliance? If emission modification required, is this procedure easy (ie. use EGR from 4AFE, etc)? Thanks to all for your input.

Cheers.

I'm not familiar with the Canadian laws about this kind of thing, but if you're required to have an inspection you'll fail. It is correct that the blacktop doesn't have some common emission hardware, and you can't put any of it on the blacktop. If you can swap, the engine will fit without modification to the mounts (and in your case the tranny mount will work too), but you still need to splice wiring harnesses and get custom lines for power steering and AC.

I never heard of crank shaft snapped . Or is it the bolt holding the crank pulley to the crank shaft break apart?

Canada crankshaft damage

Looks to be crankshaft end that extends outside of the engine (crankshaft pulley bolt threads into damaged section of crankshaft).

does it use the key (is that a woodruff key? it's been along time since I remeember which type of key it's called.._)

They key could have somehow loosed up and the pulley spun..
